Privacy policy

This policy explains what the Green Mentor app keeps about you, why, where, for how long, and what you can do about it. We ask only for what the app needs, and we never sell your data.

What we keep, and why

  • Your name, e-mail address and Google account number, from Google when you sign in, to know it is you.
  • If you use Finance: the cashbooks and businesses you make, the amounts, categories, payment modes, dates and notes you write, the names of the people you lend to or borrow from, and your bills and reminders. It is kept only to show you your own accounts and to keep them the same on your phones; no one else sees it, not even our staff, and it is never used for ads. The app never asks for a bank or mobile banking password, PIN or card number, and never reads your messages.
  • What you choose to add to your profile: date of birth, gender, phone number, where you live (country, division, district and upazila, never the full address), studies, work, interests, goal and a few words about you. All of it is optional; you can change or remove it in the app.
  • Your profile photo, if you set one. For a new account, the app takes your Google photo as the first one; you can change or remove it.
  • What you do in the app: your Gold and Star and how you earned them, the passes you take with Gold (which one, from when and until when), your daily streak, the articles you save, the reminders you set, your quiz answers and votes, the mistakes you report and the topics you ask for. Nothing in the app is sold for money, so we never see a card or payment detail.
  • The messages you send us through Help and feedback, and our answers.
  • The phones you are signed in on (their name, the app's version and when they were last used), so you can see them and sign one out.
  • Your phone's notification address and your notification choices, to send only what you want.
  • When the app meets a problem: a short code, when it happened and what the app was doing, so our help staff can find it. Crash reports tell us the phone's model and the app's version, never your name or e-mail.

What we never ask for

Religion, national ID or passport numbers, your full address, blood group or health, and your location. Prayer times in the app are for Dhaka; the app does not ask where you are.

Who else handles it

  • Google: sign-in, notifications, crash reports and the app's on/off switches (Firebase), and ads (AdMob).
  • Amazon Web Services: our servers and the stored photos, in Sydney, Australia.

Ads are never chosen from what you do or who you are: every ad request asks Google for ads suitable for children, rated G. Where the law asks, the app asks for your consent first, and you can change it later.

We do not sell or rent your data to anyone.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and everything in it: until you delete your account. Then everything is deleted 30 days later; signing in again before then cancels the deletion.
  • Finance: a cashbook you delete can be brought back for 30 days, then it goes with everything in it; a category or person you delete goes after 90 days.
  • Problem codes: 90 days. Each day's check-in: 90 days (the Gold and Star it earned stay in your history). Notifications waiting to be sent: 7 days.
  • Mistakes you reported in articles and topics you asked for stay after your account is deleted, but no longer say who wrote them.
  • When an account is deleted, we keep a one-way fingerprint of its Google account number, which cannot be turned back into it, so a one-time gift is not given twice to the same person.

What you can do

  • See and correct your profile in the app, at any time.
  • Get a copy of everything we keep about you: My profile, then Login and security, then Copy of my data.
  • Delete your account in the app; how to delete your account.
  • Turn any kind of notification off in the app.

Young members

Green Mentor is for people aged 13 and over. Members aged 13 to 17 need a parent's or guardian's consent. Nobody under 13 may use it.

Keeping it safe

Everything travels encrypted (HTTPS). On your phone, your sign-in is kept encrypted. Only staff whose work needs it can see members' details, and each look is written in a log that cannot be changed.
